Long term outcomes of patients treated with transcatheter aortic valve implantation
The American Journal of Cardiology Dec 02, 2020
Pravda NS, Codner P, Assa HV, et al. - To provide intermediate and long-term follow up data of patients who underwent transcatheter aortic-valve implantation (TAVI) for severe symptomatic aortic stenosis, this study was undertaken. Researchers utilized data from a large all-comer single center prospective registry (2008 to 2019). All-cause death was the primary endpoint. Long-term valve hemodynamic performance; paravalvular leak (PVL) at 5-year follow-up were assessed as secondary endpoints. At 5 years, the cumulative risk for all-cause death was estimated to be 43.4%. PVL was shown to be moderate in 3.3% and no patients suffered severe PVL, at 5-year follow-up. Findings demonstrated a favorable long-term outcome in TAVI patients, along with excellent valve hemodynamic parameters as well as good clinical results. Over time and with growing experience, improvements have been evident in procedural as well as in patient outcomes.
