Long-term outcomes of limb salvage treatment with custom-made extendible endoprosthesis for bone sarcoma around the knee in children
Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research Jan 23, 2020
Zou C, Zhao Z, Lin T, et al. - This retrospective study was conducted to assess long-term outcomes and influence on the growth of the lower limb of the cemented extendible endoprostheses. In this study, they recruited a sum of 45 children with bone sarcoma around the knee, who underwent custom-made extendible endoprosthesis replacements. In this study, 10.1 years was the average follow-up. They noted survival, prosthetic-related complications and revision, functional outcomes, and influence on growth by prosthesis implantation. In children, the use of custom-made extendible endoprosthesis provided good functional results with bone tumor around the knee. Further development of the prosthesis design and operation technique will help to reduce complications and gain better limb function.
