Long-term outcomes of concomitant tricuspid valve repair in patients undergoing mitral valve surgery
Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery Aug 07, 2020
Cetinkaya A, Ganchewa N, Hein S, et al. - This single-centre, retrospective study was performed to determine the impact of concomitant performance of tricuspid valve repair (TVR) on the results of patients receiving mitral valve surgery (MVS). Participants were 1,357 patients who had MVS between January 2005 and December 2015; 1,165 patients had isolated MVS and 192 patients had MVS plus TVR. Propensity scores were applied, resulting in a matched sample of 182 patients per group. In the MVS + TVR vs in the isolated MVS group, the long-term survival rate was estimated to be 60.8% vs 57.5%. Findings showed the safety as well as the effectiveness of concomitant performance of TVR in patients receiving MVS. Good long-term outcomes were achieved with concomitant performance of TVR. Since MVS + TVR improved the prognosis of patients up to the level of those receiving isolated MVS, therefore, patients can undergo MVS + TVR with confidence.
