Long-term oncologic outcomes of uterine-preserving surgery in young women with stage IB1 cervical cancer
International Journal of Gynecological Cancer Aug 31, 2018
Tseng JH, et al. - Women with stage IB1 cervical cancer treated with uterine-preserving surgery (UPS) (defined as conization or trachelectomy) vs non-UPS (defined as hysterectomy of any type) were assessed regarding the oncologic outcomes. Researchers identified women younger than 45 years diagnosed with stage IB1 cervical cancer from 1998 to 2012 using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. In a select group of young women with stage IB1 cervical cancer, especially in the setting of tumors 2 cm or less, the UPS seemed not compromising the oncologic outcomes. Worsened survival was noted in independent association with factors such as adenosquamous histology, G3 disease, tumor size greater than 2 cm and lymph node positivity.
