Goel NJ, et al. - Authors conducted a retrospective comparative study to measure the independent effect of underlying liver disease on 30-day outcomes following surgery for the degenerative cervical spine. Poor perioperative outcome following surgery for degenerative disease of the cervical spine was independently predicted by liver disease. Findings suggested a probability that in surgical decision-making, preoperative patient counseling, and postoperative patient care, a careful consideration of a patient's underlying liver function before surgery will prove valuable.
