Left ventricular reverse remodelling predicts long-term outcomes in patients with functional mitral regurgitation undergoing MitraClip therapy: Results from a multicentre registry

European Journal of Heart Failure Mar 19, 2019

Adamo M, et al. - In this analysis of 184 consecutive patients with functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) undergoing MitraClip procedure, researchers assessed the ability of left ventricular reverse remodelling (LVRR) in predicting outcomes. An attenuation in left ventricular end-systolic volume ≥ 10% from baseline to 6 months defined LVRR. Overall 79 (42.9%) patients developed LVRR. At 2-year follow-up, LVRR vs non-LVRR patients had higher rates of overall survival, freedom from heart failure (HF) hospitalization, and freedom from the composite endpoint (cardiovascular mortality or HF hospitalization). The identified independent predictors of LVRR were female gender, absence of diabetes, freedom from prior HF hospitalization, non-ischemic etiology of mitral regurgitation, and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter < 75 mm.
