Left ventricular end-systolic dimension and outcome in patients with heart failure undergoing percutaneous MitraClip valve repair for secondary mitral regurgitation
The American Journal of Cardiology Apr 30, 2020
Debonnaire P, Van De Heyning CM, El Haddad M, et al. - Researchers undertook this inquiry among heart failure (HF) patients with symptomatic secondary mitral regurgitation undergoing percutaneous mitral valve repair using MitraClip, to determine if there may be an influence of baseline left ventricular (LV) remodeling on safety, efficacy, as well as clinical results in these patients. To evaluate LV remodeling, LV end-systolic dimension index (LVESDi) was assessed on transthoracic baseline echocardiography. Findings revealed that therapeutic safety as well as efficacy remained uninfluenced by advanced LV remodeling, evaluated by LVESDi, among HF patients who underwent MitraClip therapy. However, advanced LV remodeling in these patients implied increased HF hospitalization as well as death risk. The likely value of this parameter for MitraClip therapy patient selection was suggested.
