Laparoscopic-assisted vs open D2 gastrectomy for advanced gastric cancer in highly selective patients: Short-term surgical and chemotherapy outcomes of a prospective cohort study
American Journal of Clinical Oncology May 01, 2019
Huang X, et al. - In this prospective cohort study, laparoscopic-assisted D2 gastrectomy (LAD2G) was compared with open D2 gastrectomy (OD2G) for advanced gastric cancer (AGC), in order to determine the feasibility and efficacy of LAD2G for AGC. Researchers assigned 110 patients with clinical stage T2-4aN0-3M0 gastric cancer to LAD2G and 238 patients to OD2G group. Outcomes suggest the feasibility of LAD2G for AGC in experienced centers. A higher tendency for initiating adjuvant chemotherapy earlier in patients after LAD2G. They noted more rapid postoperative recovery and relief of postoperative pain, along with lower postoperative anxiety among patients who underwent with LAD2G.
