Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Apr 03, 2019
Bergis D, et al. - This is the first study to observe a relationship in people with long-standing type 1 diabetes between iron deficiency (ID), the most frequent malnutrition worldwide, treatment satisfaction, depression and impaired quality of life (QoL). Researchers studied the iron status in middle-aged type 1 diabetes in relation to depression and QoL. They involved 109 people with type 1 diabetes in a cross-sectional study at the diabetes clinic of the Goethe University Hospital. According to the findings, patients with type 1 diabetes were often depressive in the current study and reported an impaired QoL associated with iron insufficiency. If a better awareness is required in long-standing disease for depression and ID.
