Kang CK, et al. – This study discussed pathophysiology of iron metabolism as well as efficacy of intravenous (IV) iron therapy in chronic heart failure (CHF). Also, points of controversy were identified and areas for future research were highlighted. Data highlighted the efficacy of IV iron therapy in improving symptoms, exercise capacity, and quality of life, at least in the short to intermediate time. However, there is a lack of standardised criteria to define iron deficiency and lack of understanding of the underlying mechanism of iron deficiency in CHF.
