Intrauterine adhesions following an induced termination of pregnancy: A nationwide cohort study
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology May 03, 2018
Mentula M, et al. - The incidence of intrauterine adhesions (IUAs) following induced termination of pregnancy and the risk factors for IUAs were determined. Researchers analyzed all women undergoing induced termination of pregnancy (n = 80,015) in Finland between 2000 and 2008. Findings revealed a rare occurrence of IUAs that require further treatment after an induced termination of pregnancy. Risk factor for the diagnosis of IUAs included surgical evacuation following medical or surgical termination of pregnancy. Results suggest trauma to a recently pregnant uterus to be an important risk factor for IUAs.
