Intraoperative alignment goals for distinctive sagittal morphotypes of severe cervical deformity to achieve optimal improvements in health-related quality of life measures
The Spine Journal Mar 26, 2020
Virk S, Passias P, Lafage R, et al. - This study was attempted to evaluate the radiographic characteristics of individuals who achieved optimal health related quality of life scores following surgery for cervical deformity (CD). A retrospective review of a prospectively collected database of individuals with spinal deformity was conducted. Researchers recruited a total of 153 individuals with cervical deformity. To distinguish the appropriate alignment goals to achieve optimal health-related quality of life scores, each CD patient's unique deformity must be carefully examined. It was considered that the recognition of the sagittal morphotype can help assist surgeons to intend for specific alignment aims for CT, flatneck and focal deformity. Distinct deformity specific intra-operative aims involve collecting proper sagittal global/cervical alignment for cervicothoracic individuals, correcting maximal focal kyphosis in focal deformity individuals, and correcting horizontal gaze for flatneck individuals.
