Alcohol and Alcoholism Apr 18, 2018

Perney P, et al. - Researchers aimed to confirm the efficacy of acamprosate to reduce insomnia using an individual patient data meta-analysis. They performed an individual patient data meta-analysis and selected all the randomized trials of acamprosate in which insomnia was documented. They identified 12 studies including 3,508 patients, 59.8% of whom were suffering from insomnia. Thereby suggesting that insomnia is prevalent among alcohol-dependent patients. Spontaneous decrease in insomnia was noted with abstinence but it decreased more frequently with acamprosate treatment.
