Infection characteristics and treatment of Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia at a tertiary children's hospital
BMC Infectious Diseases Aug 16, 2018
Munro APS, et al. - Researchers sought to characterize Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia (SAB) via prospectively studying patients with SAB presented at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children (Perth, Western Australia) from May 2011 to December 2013. Outcomes suggest closer investigation and management for children with > 1 focus of infection, admission to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), or x-ray changes consistent with necrotising pneumonia as these represent a more complex disease profile. This study emphasizes the potential clinical utility of highest C-reactive protein (CRP max) on day 2 as an early predictor of complex and severe SAB in children.
