Induction of labour at 41 weeks vs expectant management until 42 weeks (INDEX): Multicentre, randomised non-inferiority trial
BMJ Feb 26, 2019
Keulen JKJ, et al. - In low-risk women, researchers compared labour induction at 41 weeks with expectant management up to 42 weeks. Among 1801 low-risk women with an uncomplicated singleton pregnancy, the labor induction at 41 weeks resulted in less overall adverse perinatal outcome than a policy of expectant management until 42 weeks, although the absolute risk of severe adverse outcome (perinatal mortality, neonatal intensive care unit [NICU] admission, Apgar score <4 at five minutes) was low in both groups. They found no significant difference in composite adverse maternal outcomes or in caesarean section rate.
