Aslam MV, et al. - Researchers investigated discharge records regarding 2010–2014 trends in syphilis diagnoses to characterize the national trends in syphilis rates among females delivering newborns. Further, they assessed the associated factors among females who have given birth in US hospitals. They used International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification codes on delivery discharge records from the National Inpatient Sample to calculate the quarterly trends in syphilis rates (per 100,000 deliveries). Outcomes revealed that pregnant females of all backgrounds had increasing syphilis rates which emphasize the significance of prenatal screening and treatment.
