Rudofker EW, et al. – This research was designed to test the hypothesis that left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) patients who experienced gastrointestinal bleeds (GIB) would have a greater risk of thromboembolic (TE) events following GIB compared with those without GIB. Among LVAD patients, GIB in the previous 30 days was a strong predictor of TE events. African–American race could be protective against TE events in LVAD patients.
