Increased risk of cognitive impairment and more severe brain lesions in hypertensive compared to non-hypertensive patients with cerebral small vessel disease
The Journal of Clinical Hypertension Aug 03, 2018
Pavlovic AM, et al. - Researchers determined the differences in clinical and neuroradiological presentation in small vessel disease (SVD) patients with hypertension (HT) vs SVD patients without hypertension. They focused on vascular risk factors, cognitive, and functional status in a cohort of 424 patients. These patient groups did not differ in age and sex distribution. In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, HT was suggested as an independent risk factor for vascular cognitive impairment (vCI) and higher Fazekas DS score. Overall, they concluded that HT contributes to worse clinical outcomes and neuroradiological presentation in patients with sporadic SVD.
