Increased longevity in older users of postmenopausal estrogen therapy: The Leisure World Cohort Study
Menopause Oct 29, 2018
Paganini-Hill A, et al. – Researchers investigated the effect of postmenopausal estrogen therapy (ET)—including duration and recency of use—on all-cause mortality in older women by analyzing postal health surveys that included details on ET, which were completed by women (median age, 73 years) of the Leisure World Cohort. These women were followed up for 22 years (1981-2003). Among the 8,801 participants, death was reported for 6,626 during follow-up (median age, 88 years). A decrease in risk of death was noted with both increasing duration of ET and decreasing years since last use, which suggested an association of long-term ET with lower all-cause mortality in older women.
