Increased long-term mortality in women with high left ventricular ejection fraction: Data from the CONFIRM (COronary CT Angiography EvaluatioN For Clinical Outcomes: An InteRnational Multicenter) long-term registry
European Heart Journal – Cardiovascular Imaging Jan 31, 2020
Gebhard C, Maredziak M, Messerli M, et al. - Given there exist significant gender-specific differences in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), with a higher LVEF being noted in women, researchers evaluated the clinical significance of an elevated LVEF in women and men. For this purpose, they used the CONFIRM registry, and selected 4,632 patients. They found a high prevalence of increased LVEF in patients referred for assessment of coronary artery disease (CAD). An increased risk of mortality in women, but not in men, was observed in relation to increased LVEF. Improved risk stratification in women with CAD might be achieved by distinguishing between normal and hyperdynamic left ventricles.
