Incidence of infections caused by carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii
American Journal of Infection Control Aug 13, 2019
Rossi I, Royer S, Ferreira ML, et al. - Researchers performed a retrospective study involving hospitalized patients with Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CR-Ab) infections from January 2013 to December 2017, in order to assess the prevalence of CR-Ab infections at a Brazilian university hospital. In addition, they assessed prognostic factors and examined how inappropriate antimicrobial therapy affects patient outcome. Among 489 included patients, they observed a rate of 0.7 per 1,000 patient-day CR-Ab infections; these were noted mostly in the lungs (54.7%), and predominantly in the adult intensive care unit. In November 2014, infections by CR-Ab per 1,000 patient-days were identified as exceeding the established control limit, confirming an outbreak.
