Incidence of false-positive transmissions during remote rhythm monitoring with implantable loop recorders
Heart Rhythm Aug 21, 2019
Afzal MR, Mease J, Koppert T, et al. - Researchers determined the incidence of as well as reasons for false-positive (FP) diagnoses during remote monitoring with implantable loop recorder (ILR) in this inquiry run for 4 weeks. In patients with ILR (Reveal LINQ, Medtronic) implanted for atrial fibrillation surveillance, cryptogenic stroke, and syncope, they reviewed all consecutive remote transmissions. Findings revealed a substantial incidence of FP during remote monitoring with nominal settings on this ILR. The incidence ranged from 46% to 86% based on the indication for implantation. A considerable time commitment from electrophysiologists and device clinic personnel was needed for the adjudication of these transmissions but with the necessity for avoiding misdiagnosis and potential errors in clinical management.
