Incidence of asymptomatic brain metastases in metastatic colorectal cancer
Clinical Colorectal Cancer Oct 07, 2020
Shindorf ML, et al. - In this study, the incidence of asymptomatic brain metastases were described in individuals with metastatic colorectal cancer. This research was conducted to include individuals with metastatic colorectal cancer enrolled in a clinical trial screening protocol at the National Cancer Institute that had undergone brain imaging (n = 171) between 2010 and 2019. A high number of asymptomatic brain metastasis and subsequently a higher cumulative incidence of brain metastases were distinguished in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer than historical reports would suggest. The results considered that this may represent a heretofore unknown aspect of the natural course of disease now being exposed owing to an elevating life expectancy of these individuals and could play a pivotal role in therapeutic decisions.
