Incidence of AIDS-related Kaposi sarcoma in all 50 United States from 2000 to 2014
Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes Jul 01, 2019
White DL, et al. - In the United States, researchers comprehensively investigated current secular trends in AIDS-related Kaposi sarcoma (KS) incidence. Analysis of the US Cancer Statistics registry data revealed a decline in age-adjusted KS incidence rates nationwide from 1.44/100,000 to 0.95/100,000 between 2000 and 2014. However, there are persistent disparities with respect to age, race, and geography. Younger black men showed increasing risk and the rates were particularly elevated in some southern states and urban areas. Georgia, New York, California, Florida, and Texas were the states with the highest average age-adjusted rates over the study period, with significantly declining trends over time, except in Georgia where rates grew.
