Incidence and risk factors of spinal epidural hemorrhage after spine surgery: A cross-sectional retrospective analysis of a national database
BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders May 30, 2020
Park JH, et al. - This study was undertaken to investigate the incidence rate and risk factors of spinal epidural hemorrhage (SEH) using a national dataset. Researchers enrolled a sum of 17,549 spine surgery cases from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service National Inpatient Sample of 2014. A univariate comparison was conducted after assessing the incidence of SEH based on severe cases requiring reoperation. The study found similar incidence of SEH to that reported in literature, although severe SEH cases were not detected. Given that SEH is a rare complication of spine surgery and constitutes an important research area that requires to be reviewed further, this research makes a meaningful contribution based on a rigorous national level sample for the first time and serves the academic circle and health professionals with a reliable data of improved clinical results in such cases.
