Incidence and outcomes of acute myocardial infarction during motor vehicle accident related hospitalizations
The American Journal of Cardiology Dec 07, 2018
Alkhouli M, et al. - Researchers used the national inpatient sample and examined patients hospitalized with Motor Vehicle Traffic Accidents (ICD-9-CM codes e810-e819) between 2003-2014, to determine the frequency, features and outcomes of acute myocardial infarctions (AMI) among patients admitted with Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVA). They focused on crude and risk-adjusted in-hospital mortality in patients with and without AMI (primary end point), as well as on major morbidities, and resource utilization metrics (secondary end-points). According to findings, an uncommon occurrence of AMI was reported in patients admitted with MVA. Nonetheless, AMI in these patients was found to be related to substantial morbidity, mortality and cost.
