Inappropriate left ventricular mass and cardiovascular disease events and mortality in blacks: The Jackson Heart Study
Journal of the American Heart Association Aug 19, 2019
Anstey DE, Tanner RM, Booth JN, et al. - Using data from the Jackson Heart Study, a community-based cohort of blacks, researchers focused on the link of inappropriate left ventricular mass (iLVM) with cardiovascular disease (CVD) events and all-cause mortality among blacks. Overall 4,424 participants without CVD and with an echocardiogram at baseline were analyzed. In this study sample, the prevalence of iLVM was estimated to be 13.8%. A median follow-up of 9.7 years (maximum, 12 years) revealed 262 CVD events and 419 deaths. In this study, an increased risk for CVD events was reported in correlation with iLVM among blacks without left ventricular hypertrophy.
