In-hospital cardiac rehabilitation and clinical outcomes in patients with acute myocardial infarction after percutaneous coronary intervention: A retrospective cohort study
BMJ Open Oct 02, 2020
Kanazawa N, et al. - Researchers used the Japanese administrative claims database in this retrospective cohort study to confirm the links between engagement in an in-hospital cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programme and clinical results among patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Data of 13,697 patients, aged ≥18 years who received PCI because of AMI and survived to discharge, were extracted. Of these, 65.4% took part in an in-hospital CR. Findings are indicative of the likely efficacy of in-hospital CR participation in attenuating the risk of revascularisation, all-cause readmission and cardiac readmission in a sample of patients with AMI post-PCI. The potential benefits of CR may be expanded by in-hospital CR, in addition to outpatient CR.
