Improved survival for rural trauma patients transported by helicopter to a verified trauma center: A propensity score analysis
Academic Emergency Medicine Sep 16, 2017
Zhu TH, et al. - This propensity score analysis aimed to determine if helicopter transport (HT) was correlated with a survival benefit for when trauma patients were transported to a verified trauma center in a rural setting using a methodologically vigorous approach. The authors found improved survival associated with HT compared to ground ambulance transport (GT) for scene transportation of adult trauma patients to a verified level II trauma center using an advanced methodologic approach in a rural setting, which included an adjustment for transport distance. They discussed the implication of survival benefit to the rural population. They recommended repetition of larger studies with multiple trauma systems, using similar study methodology to substantiate the findings.
