Improved early diagnosis of difficult cases of tuberculous pleural effusion by combination of thoracoscopy with immunological tests

International Journal of Infectious Diseases Apr 14, 2019

Huo Z, et al. - Researchers investigated if early diagnosis of difficult cases of pleural effusion was possible with five commonly used laboratory tests (thoracoscopy, pleural fluid adenosine deaminase assay, serum tuberculosis antibody test [TB-antibody], tuberculin skin test [TST], and T-SPOT.TB assay). Among 106 enrolled patients, thoracoscopy combined with TST or TB-antibody test was identified to be best for early diagnosis of difficult cases of tuberculous pleurisy (TP) in high TB burden countries.
