Implant fracture failure rate and potential associated risk indicators: An up-to 12-year retrospective study of implants in 5124 patients
Clinical Oral Implants Research Jan 27, 2019
Lee DW, et al. - In this retrospective analysis, 19,006 internal connection implants used in fixed restoration in 5124 subjects at the Dental Hospital of Veterans Health Service Medical Center were examined between 2006 and 2015 to study the fracture rates and risk indicators for fractures in internal connection dental implants. Authors recorded a significant correlation of the diameter, location, history of bone graft, and microthread presence with implant fractures in the multivariable Cox regression model. They observed a reduced fracture risk with wide-diameter implants within 90 months, after which the diameter did not correspond to fractures. They noticed mandibular premolar implants related to a lower risk of fracture after 90 months. They found more risk of fracture in implants with a history of bone graft or microthreads throughout the follow-up time.
