Impaired right ventricular reserve predicts adverse cardiac outcomes in adults with congenital right heart disease
Heart Jul 27, 2018
DeFaria Yeh D, et al. - In this retrospective study of adult patients with congenital heart disease (ACHD) referred for cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), researchers assessed the predictive impact of impaired right ventricle (RV) reserve. They categorized RV reserve as normal, mild to moderately or severely impaired. Clinical right heart failure (HF), arrhythmia, transplantation, or death was assessed as the primary composite clinical outcome. They found that resting systolic function assessment failed to adequately predict impaired RV reserve in asymptomatic patients. They also observed that adverse cardiovascular outcomes were robustly predicted by impaired RV reserve.
