Impact of transferrin saturation on all-cause mortality in patients on maintenance hemodialysis
Blood Purification Jul 21, 2019
Sato M, et al. - Researchers investigated the prognostic value of transferrin saturation (TSAT) in 398 Japanese patients on maintenance hemodialysis (MHD). Based on the baseline TSAT levels, they divided patients into 3 groups (<20, 20–40, and >40%). Findings revealed the significant independent predictive value of low TSAT for all-cause mortality in this cohort of Japanese patients. Infection-related iron deficiency was identified to have a partial causative role in the adverse clinical outcomes in patients with low TSAT.
