Impact of stent generation on 2-year clinical outcomes in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction patients with multivessel disease who underwent culprit-only or multivessel percutaneous coronary intervention

Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Aug 22, 2019

Kim YH, Her AY, Jeong MH, et al. - Researchers investigated how stent generation influence long-term outcomes in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients with multivessel disease (MVD) who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with culprit-only PCI (C-PCI) or multivessel PCI (M-PCI) are limited. They examined the incidence of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) and the cumulative incidence of stent thrombosis in 7,266 patients, which included 4,901 undergoing a C-PCI and 2,365 undergoing M-PCI. The analysis revealed the lowest cumulative incidence of MACE for second-generation-drug-eluting stents (DES), the highest cumulative incidence of MACE for bare-metal stents, and intermediate cumulative incidence of MACE for first-generation (1G)-DES in the STEMI patients with MVD following C-PCI or M-PCI. However, the two different reperfusion strategy groups had a similar cumulative incidence of stent thrombosis regardless of stent generation.
