Impact of right ventricular pacing in patients who underwent implantation of permanent pacemaker after transcatheter aortic valve implantation
The American Journal of Cardiology Aug 24, 2018
Nadeem F, et al. - In this single center study, researchers assessed how chronic right ventricular pacing (RV pacing) influences outcome in post transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) patients, given that the use of TAVI is expanding. Participants were 672 patients who had TAVI from 2011-2017, out of which 146 had implantation of permanent pacemaker (PPM). Retrospective follow up data analysis was carried out for 55 patients. A greater likeliness for heart failure admissions and a trend towards increased mortality was seen in patients who had PP, and in patients with > 40% RV pacing vs those who had < 40% RV pacing. This indicated that the post TAVI PPM cohort was especially sensitive to chronic RV pacing.
