Impact of primary colorectal cancer location on the KRAS status and its prognostic value
BMC Gastroenterology Mar 30, 2019
Xie MZ, et al. - In this investigation, researchers examined the association of Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog (KRAS) status with clinicopathological characteristics and prognostic ability in colorectal cancer (CRC) by analyzing 178 patients with colon cancer, which were divided into right-sided colon cancer (RCC) and left-sided colon cancer (LCC), and 145 patients with rectal cancer. In terms of KRAS status, there was no significant difference between colon cancer and rectal cancer. KRAS mutation was much more common in RCC vs LCC, and LCC patients with KRAS mutation had a poor prognosis vs wild type KRAS, but patients with RCC did not have a similar relationship. These outcomes showed that in the prognosis of CRC patients, both tumor location and KRAS status play important roles.
