Impact of preexisting coronary arterial disease in patients undergoing percutaneous mitral valve repair (MitraClip)
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Dec 02, 2020
Gifft K, Omran J, Ghrair F, et al. - Researchers used the 2016 Nationwide Readmissions Data to determine if the postprocedural results of Mitraclip are impacted by the presence of preexisting coronary arterial disease (CAD). They assessed in‐hospital all‐cause death, cardiogenic shock, acute myocardial infarction (AMI), acute kidney injury, stroke, acute respiratory failure, length of hospital stay, and 30‐day readmission rate, all as primary endpoints. There were 2,539 discharges that had Mitraclip during the index hospitalization. Of these, a history of preexisting CAD was present in 62.3%. In this study, preexisting CAD was found to be correlated with higher in‐hospital AMI after Mitraclip but with comparable death as well as other morbidities. Higher in‐hospital mortality and morbidity was found in patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention during the same index hospitalization.
