Impact of pre-procedural hyponatremia on clinical outcomes after transcatheter aortic valve replacement: A propensity-matched analysis

Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Jul 22, 2018

Kagase A, et al. - Researchers used data from the Optimized CathEter vAlvular iNtervention (OCEAN)-TAVR Japanese multicenter registry to evaluate the prognostic value of hyponatremia in patients who had transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). They analyzed data from 1,215 consecutive patients (mean age: 84.4 ± 5.0 years), comparing patients with and without hyponatremia with respect to baseline characteristics, procedural outcomes, all-cause, cardiovascular, and non-cardiovascular mortality. Based on the findings, they concluded that pre-procedural hyponatremia may have utility as a marker for predicting early and mid-term clinical outcomes after TAVR. All-cause and cardiovascular mid-term mortality were higher in the hyponatremia group vs the non-hyponatremia group.
