Impact of plaque calcification and stent oversizing on clinical outcomes of atherosclerotic femoropopliteal arterial occlusive disease following stent angioplasty

European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Mar 16, 2019

He HP, et al. - Given the contribution of plaque calcification and stent oversizing to in-stent restenosis (ISR) following femoropopliteal stent angioplasty, researchers sought for a pre-operative quantitative assessment method of plaque calcification and rational parameters of stent oversizing in the femoropopliteal artery. They retrospectively analyzed a total of 115 patients with atherosclerotic femoropopliteal arterial occlusive disease treated from January 2013 to January 2016. Outcomes suggest that quantitative analysis of calcified plaque in the femoropopliteal artery could be done on pre-operative computed tomography angiography (CTA) images. They observed unfavorable outcomes following stent angioplasty in correlation with high calcified plaque burden and excessive stent oversizing.
