Impact of contact vs non-contact wide-angle viewing systems on outcomes of primary retinal detachment repair (PRO study report number 5)
British Journal of Ophthalmology May 19, 2020
Tieger MG, Rodriguez M, Wang JC, et al. - In this multicenter, interventional, retrospective, comparative study, researchers ascertained if the viewing system used is correlated with any differences in surgical outcomes of vitrectomy for primary non-complex retinal detachment repair. Eyes that had non-complex primary retinal detachment repair by either pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) alone or in combination with scleral buckle/PPV in 2015 have been assessed. In total, 2,256 eyes were involved in the analysis. No statistically significant difference was found in anatomic success achieved for primary retinal detachment repair when comparing non-contact viewing systems to contact lens systems. Postoperative visual acuity in the contact-based group was higher but this was not statistically important when accounting for confounding variables.
