Immunohistochemical assay for neuron-specific enolase, synaptophysin, and RB-associated protein as a diagnostic aid in advanced retinoblastomas
Clinical Ophthalmology Jul 04, 2018
López López JC, et al. - Authors assessed the expression of the neural markers, neuron-specific enolase, and synaptophysin, as a tool to confirm the diagnosis of retinoblastoma (RB) in undifferentiated and advanced tumors. They also determined whether or not the extent of RB-associated protein (pRb) expression was helpful in evaluating the prognosis in RB patients. The potential to be useful markers for the diagnosis of RBs was seen in neuron-specific enolase and synaptophysin. Findings did not suggest an association of extensive and strong pRb staining with less aggressive tumor behavior according to the pathologic classification of RBs.
