Identification of factors to increase efficacy of telemedicine screening for diabetic retinopathy in endocrinology practices using the intelligent retinal imaging system (IRIS) platform
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Apr 13, 2018
Naik S, et al. - Using Intelligent Retinal Imaging Systems (IRIS), authors examined the prevalence rates of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and diabetic macular edema (DME), and attempted to determine the associated epidemiologic correlations in patients with Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Data revealed that DR and DME were noted in 1781 (33.98%) and 226 imaging studies (4.31%) respectively. A higher prevalence of identified DR at the time of screening was reported due to the screening in counties with a higher incidence of DM. Yielded data depicted that telemedicine screening in areas with a higher incidence of DM could be significant.
