How to perform better intervention to prevent and control diabetic retinopathy among patients with type 2 diabetes: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Sep 27, 2019
Yusufu M, et al. - Researchers explored how to better conduct interventions targeting modifiable risk factors of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) to avoid and control DR by comparing distinct types of intervention and follow-up intervals. Twenty-two randomized, controlled trials (n = 22,511) were involved in this analysis. According to findings, multifactorial interventions had a better effect on reducing the risk of DR development and progression vs other interventions, while only blood-pressure-control interventions had a significant effect on slowing down the deterioration of DR. In addition, follow-up interventions > 5 years had a stronger impact on DR growth decrease, and follow-up interventions > 2 years had a stronger impact on worsening DR risk decrease.
