How common is medial and lateral shoulder discordance in Lenke 1 and 2 curves?-A preoperative analysis of medial and lateral shoulder balance among 151 Lenke 1 and 2 adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients
Spine Apr 03, 2019
Chung WH, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers estimated the data to delineate the incidence and the trends of medial and lateral shoulder discordance among subjects with Lenke 1 and 2 adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). They found a concordant pattern in 53.6% of cases while a discordant pattern in 46.4% of subjects. They observed lateral shoulder imbalance in 35.1% of subjects while 43.7% of patients were noted with medial shoulder imbalance. They reported more prevalence of shoulder discordant pattern in Lenke 2 curves (67.5%). Medial imbalanced–ve/lateral imbalanced–ve (MI–ve/LI–ve) pattern was the most common pattern in Lenke 1-ve (flexible) curves. An almost similar number of concordant and discordant shoulder pattern was noticed in Lenke 1+ve curves (stiff). The most common pattern was medial imbalanced+ve/lateral balanced (MI+ve/LB) in Lenke 2 candidates.
