Sexually Transmitted Infections Mar 24, 2020
Bernier A, Rumyantseva T, Reques T, et al. - Researchers investigated the prevalence and factors linked with HIV and five other STIs among outdoor female sex workers (OSFW) and indoor FSW (IFSW) via performing a cross-sectional survey among 385 FSW using respondent-driven sampling methodology. Of the participants, 206 (53.5%) were IFSW and 179 (46.5%) were OFSW. A bio-behavioural questionnaire was administered and testing for Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG), Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Trichomonas vaginalis (TV), syphilis (lifetime contact) and Mycoplasma genitalium (MG) were performed among the participants. Outcomes revealed a high prevalence of HIV and STIs among FSW in Moscow. They observed weighted HIV prevalence of 3.1%. The weighted prevalence of other STIs was as follows : 4.1% for NG, 8.8% for CT, 12.7% for TV, 13.9% for syphilis (lifetime contact) and 14.9% for MG. Higher vulnerability to STIs was noted among OFSW. This emphasize the urgent necessity for programs for sexual and reproductive health for FSW in Russia. .
