History of Lyme disease as a predictor of atrial fibrillation
The American Journal of Cardiology Mar 19, 2020
Szymanska A, et al. - Researchers examined if there is a correlation between the serological history of Borrelia infection and the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF). They assessed 113 AF patients and 109 patients in sinus rhythm. The analysis revealed more frequent serological signs of Borrelia infection among patients with AF vs the non-AF group (34.5% vs. 6.4%). The multivariate analysis showed a strong independent predictive value of positive results for anti-Borrelia IgG antibodies for AF. Findings thereby suggest the presence of an association between exposure to Borrelia spp. infection and an increased risk of AF.
