High prevalence rate of digestive tract bacteria in duodenoscopes: A nationwide study
Gut Apr 15, 2018
Rauwers AW, et al. - This nationwide cross-sectional study evaluated the prevalence of bacterial contamination of reprocessed duodenoscopes used for Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedures in The Netherlands. At least one AM20-contaminated patient-ready duodenoscope was determined in 39% of all Dutch ERCP centres. Data displayed that 15% of the duodenoscopes harboured MGO. This, in turn, pointed towards the residual organic material of previous patients, failing of disinfection. Yielded results exhibited that the present reprocessing and process control procedures were not adequate and safe.
