High inflammatory infiltrate correlates with poor symptomatic improvement after surgical treatment for superior limbic keratoconjunctivitis
Cornea Mar 16, 2018
Zoroquiain P, et al. - The researchers sought to describe the clinicopathological features of patients with superior limbic keratoconjunctivitis (SLK) who underwent surgical treatment for superior limbic keratoconjunctivitis and their relationship with the clinical outcome. The most common systemic association with SLK was the autoimmune status of the patients. It was seen in the histopathological evaluation that high inflammatory infiltration in the biopsy could be predictive of minimal symptomatic improvement with surgical management. Compared to individuals with a normal conjunctiva, patients with SLK presented with a higher COX-2 expression, that supported the use of anti-COX-2 drugs as a possible therapeutic target.
