High ACT score is not sufficient to reduce the risk of asthma exacerbations in asthma with low lung function
Respiratory Medicine Apr 11, 2019
Kwon JW, et al. - Researchers investigated whether asthma control could attenuate the future risk of asthma exacerbations (AEs) in patients with low forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1). In 565 patients with asthma from the COREA cohort, they assessed the future risks of AEs within six months according to Asthma Control Test (ACT) score and FEV1. Despite ACT score ≥20 and asthma treatments, a higher risk of AEs was observed among patients with low FEV1 vs those with near-normal FEV1. Hence, there exists a need for treatment strategies to prevent AEs in high-risk asthmatic patients.
