Heart failure site-based research in the United States: Results of the Heart Failure Society of America Research Network Survey
JACC: Heart Failure May 03, 2019
Psotka MA, et al. - Via an electronic survey by Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA), researchers assessed the involvement of clinicians and scientists in heart failure (HF) clinical research and the challenges of directing high-quality HF clinical research in the US. Out of 1,794 HFSA members given surveys, 434 members (24%) completed them. Out of 7,589 people with interest in HF, 615 completed surveys. Among respondents, those actively engaged in HF research and those interested in research were 410 (67%) and 120 (20%), respectively. Those who said they were active in clinical research usually participated in 1 to 5 trials and enrolled 1 to 20 patients annually. The following were identified as the greatest barriers to research: insufficient site budgets, delay in contracting, inability to find participants meeting trial entry criteria, and unavailability of qualified study coordinators.
